The Year in Beer
Year in Beer Update
The Year in Beer is over and we are happy to report that we are still married and enjoying spending more time at home with Porter and Stout.
Merideth is diligently working on the book about the our travels in 2008 tentatively titled Teachings from the Tap; Life Lessons from our Year in Beer. It will be a humorous look at a couple spending their 19th year of marriage living their beer dream.
We declared 2008 the "Year in Beer". There were even press releases to make it all official.
The "Year in Beer" was originally conceived of as a travel show; somewhere between Rick Steves and Anthony Bourdain. But after several years of trying to find someone who could help us make the "Year in Beer" a reality (and failing miserably), we decided to take the proverbial 'bull by the horns' and just went for it.
We attended a major beer event or destination each month and you can see our complete schedule to the right. Our travels, which were chronicled on the website, took us to seven destinations in the United States and five in Europe.
The theme of our travels is always 'the world becomes smaller and friendlier through beer' and we made that message our focus for all of last year. With beer as a catalyst, we met people from various states and other countries, and through the experience we grew as people. We are definitely better for having embarked on this amazing adventure.
Through our blog and episodes of beergeek.TV, fellow beer geeks and travelers were able to experience “The Year in Beer” as it happened. Now that the Year in Beer is over, you can view the complete blog from the journey and watch all the episodes back to back or choose the destinations that appeal to you most.
Although the main focus now is compiling our experience from last year into a book, we are still committed to the the idea that the "Year in Beer" would make an excellent televison travel show.
